Ingredients for homemade rosemary oleolite
To prepare an effective oleolite you only need two natural ingredients:
- Fresh or dried rosemary (preferably organic)
- Cold-pressed vegetable oil (olive, almond, or sunflower oil)
Recommended quantities:
- 1 glass jar (250–500 ml)
- Rosemary: enough to fill the jar
- Oil: enough to completely cover the plant
Step-by-step procedure
- Cold method (more delicate, but longer)
- Collect or purchase fresh rosemary , wash and dry the sprigs well.
- Break the leaves into pieces and place them in a sterilized glass jar .
- Completely coat the rosemary with your chosen vegetable oil.
- Close the jar and leave to macerate in a dark, cool place for 30 days.
- Shake the jar every 2-3 days to aid extraction.
- After the time has elapsed, filter the oleolite through a fine mesh strainer or sterile gauze.
- Pour into a dark bottle and store in a cool place, away from light.
- Hot method (faster, ready in a few hours)
- Place rosemary and oil in a jar in a bain-marie .
- Heat over low heat for 2–3 hours, keeping the temperature below 40–50°C .
- Once cooled, filter and store as directed above.
